Divisions – European Union Referendum Bill

On 18th November 2015 the Bishop of Chester, the Rt Revd Peter Forster, took part in two votes on amendments to the Government’s European Union Referendum Bill –  on votes for 16 year olds and eligibility of overseas commonwealth citizens to vote in the referendum.


Lords No Division LobbyBaroness Morgan of Ely tabled amendment 3, to extend the franchise to those aged 16 or 17.

The House divided:

Contents: 293 | Not Contents: 211 | Result: Government Defeat

The Bishop of Chester voted not content.


Baroness Miller of Chilthorne Domer tabled amendment 6, relating to eligibility of overseas commonwealth citizens to vote in the referendum.

The House divided: Contents: 116 | Not Contents: 214 | Result: Government Win

 The Bishop of Chester  voted content.
