On 28th February 2017 the House of Lords voted on an amendment to the Government’s Neighbourhood Planning Bill. The Bishop of St Albans took part in the vote.The Archbishop of York spoke in favour of the amendment.

Lord Kennedy of Southwark moved amendment 35, after clause 13, to insert the new clause Change of use of drinking establishments. The amendment seeks to protect the status of pubs and drinking establishments under planning law in order to prevent them being replaced by different commercial ventures.
