On 11th July 2023, the House of Lords debated the Levelling-up and Regeneration Bill in the first day of the report stage. Votes were held on amendments to the bill, in which Bishops took part:

Division 1:
The Bishop of Chelmsford, the Bishop of Durham, and the Bishop of St Albans took part in a vote on an amendment to the bill tabled by Baroness Hayman of Ullock which would introduce a 30 day limit on the laying of statements before parliament to ensure the third round of the levelling up fund will take place in a timely manner.

Division 2:
The Bishop of Chelmsford, the Bishop of Durham, the Bishop of Manchester, the Bishop of Leeds, the Bishop of Chichester, and the Bishop of St Albans took part in a vote on an amendment to the bill tabled by Baroness Lister of Burtersett which would stipulate that “The levelling-up missions must include a mission to reduce the proportion of children of all ages living in poverty in all its dimensions.”

Division 3:
The Bishop of Chelmsford, the Bishop of Durham, the Bishop of Manchester, the Bishop of Leeds, and the Bishop of Chichester took part in a vote on an amendment to the bill tabled by Lord Shipley which would stipulate that the statement of levelling up missions must “must include an assessment of geographical disparities in the United Kingdom, broken down by local authority and by postcode area and council ward,”, considering levels of public spending, private investment, disposable household income, educational attainment, housing supply, and other external factors.

Division 5:
The Bishop of Manchester took part in a vote on an amendment tabled by Lord Foster of Bath to insert a new clause into the bill which would require the Secretary of State to publish a Rural Proofing Report detailing the impact of levelling up missions on rural areas.
