On 6th September 2023, the House of Lords debated the Levelling-up and Regeneration Bill in the report stage. Votes were held on amendments to the bill, in which Bishops took part:

Division 1:
The Bishop of Southwark and the Bishop of Durham took part in a vote on an amendment tabled by Lord Best which would stipulate that provisions to tackle homelessness and lack of affordable housing be included in the “local plans” established by the bill.

Division 2:
The Bishop of Southwark took part in a vote on an amendment tabled by Lord Young of Cookham which would require a local plan to meet or exceed the housing need for a local authority’s area, as specified by government targets.

Division 3:
The Bishop of Southwark took part in a vote on an amendment tabled by Lord Hunt of Kings Heath which would insert a new clause, Duty to reduce health inequalities and improve well-being, into the bill.

The Bishop of Southwark voted Content.
Division 4:
The Bishop of Durham and the Bishop of Southwark voted in favour of an amendment tabled by Baroness Hayman of Ullock, which would insert a new clause, Definition of affordable housing, into the bill.
