Welcome to the Church of England’s weekly round-up of activity in Parliament.
This week bishops in the House of Lords sponsored, spoke to and voted on amendments to the Government’s Immigration Bill and Housing and Planning Bill. Bishops also spoke in debates on the 2016 Budget and asked questions on rural transport, the case of Asia Bibi and Disability Living Allowance appeals. The Lords rose on Wednesday for the Easter recess.
Monday 21st March
The Bishop of St Albans received a written answer to a question on the case of Asia Bibi.
The Bishop of Chelmsford spoke to amendments to the Immigration Bill on unaccompanied child refugees and asylum in cases of genocide. The Bishop of Norwich spoke to amendments on family reunion and care leavers. Several bishops took part in votes on the Bill.
Tuesday 22nd March
The Bishop of St Albans asked a question on rural transport funding and received written answers to two questions on Disability Living Allowance appeals.
Wednesday 23rd March
The Bishop of St Albans spoke to an amendment to the Housing and Planning Bill.
The Bishop of Portsmouth spoke in a debate on the 2016 Budget.
