Votes: EU (Withdrawal) Bill

On 18th April 2018 the House of Lords considered amendments to the EU (Withdrawal) Bill at its Report Stage. Two votes took place on amendments to the Bill, both of which saw bishops take part:

House of Lords Division Lobby

Lord Kerr of Kinlochard moved amendment 1, in clause 1, page 1, line 2, at end to insert:

“(1) Subsection (2) applies if, and only if, the condition in subsection (3) is met.”

The amendment would require the Government to set out how it had considered the UK remaining inside a customs union. The House divided:

Contents: 348 | Not Contents: 225 | Result: Government Defeat

The Bishops of Durham, Leeds and St Albans voted Content. The Bishop of Chester voted Not Content.

Baroness Hayter of Kentish Town moved amendment 11, after clause 3, to insert the new clause ‘Enhanced protection for certain areas of EU law’. The House divided:

Contents: 314 | Not Contents: 217 | Result: Government Defeat

The Bishops of Coventry and Leeds voted Content.
