On 13th December 2021, the House of Lords debated the Police, Crime Sentencing and Courts Bill in the report stage. Votes were held on amendments to the bill, in which Bishops took part.

The Bishop of Leeds and the Bishop of Manchester took part in a vote on an amendment tabled by Lord Paddick to leave out clause 17 of the bill, which would grant the secretary of state powers to give directions to require compliance with the “serious violence” duty contained in the bill.
