On 16th April 2024, the House of Lords debated Commons reasons and amendments to the Safety of Rwanda (Asylum and Immigration) Bill. Votes were held on further amendments to the bill, in which Bishops took part:

Division 1:
The Bishop of Bristol, the Bishop of Gloucester, the Bishop of Manchester, the Bishop of Newcastle, and the Bishop of Worcester took part in a vote on amendment 1D, tabled by Lord Coaker, stipulating that the bill should have due regard for international law, the Children Act 1989, the Human Rights Act 1998, and the Modern Slavery Act 2015.

Division 2:
The Bishop of Bristol, the Bishop of Gloucester, the Bishop of Manchester, the Bishop of Newcastle, and the Bishop of Worcester took part in a vote on amendment 3E, tabled by Lord Hope of Craighead, which would require an Independent Monitoring Committee to certify that the Rwanda Treaty was being adhered to before Rwanda could be considered a safe country.

Division 3:
The Bishop of Bristol, the Bishop of Gloucester, the Bishop of Manchester, the Bishop of Newcastle, and the Bishop of Worcester took part in a vote on amendment 6D, tabled by Baroness Chakrabarti, which would provide for the courts to make a judgement over whether Rwanda is a safe country for individuals, and grant interim remedies to prevent their removal to Rwanda.

Division 4:
The Bishop of Bristol, the Bishop of Gloucester, the Bishop of Manchester, the Bishop of Newcastle, the Bishop of Oxford, the Bishop of St Edmundsbury & Ipswich, and the Bishop of Worcester took part in a vote on amendment 10D, tabled by Lord Browne of Ladyton, which would provide exemptions for agents, allies, and employees of the UK overseas.
