On 6th November 2024, the House of Lords debated the Passenger Railway Services (Public Ownership) Bill. Votes were held on amendments to the bill, in which Bishops took part.

The Bishop of St Albans took part in a vote on an amendment tabled by Lord Moylan, which “would require the Secretary of State to terminate franchise agreements for default and to nationalise the worst performing operators first, while enabling services that are currently working well to continue.”

The Archbishop of Canterbury voted in favour of an amendment tabled by Lord Moylan, which “would require the Secretary of State to make a statement outlining the Government’s plans to take all reasonable steps to achieve a 75 per cent increase in the volume of rail freight in the United Kingdom by 2050.”
