This week in the House of Lords the Bishop of London made her first speech during a debate on disability, and the Bishop of St Albans’s Marriage Registration Bill passed its next parliamentary stage. Bishops also spoke about conflict in Nigeria, and asked questions about private finance for prisons, terrorism, and the apprenticeship levy.

This week in the House of Lords bishops spoke about the report of the Gosport Independent Panel and asked questions about mental health services in rural areas, immigration removals, the two-child limit for benefits, personal independence payments, and attacks on Christians in Myanmar. Times: Bishop of St Albans voices concern about delay in reduction of betting machine stakes
On 16th June 2018 the Bishop of St Albans, Rt Revd Alan Smith, was a signatory to a letter to The Times newspaper registering concern about reports of a delay to the implementation of a reduction in stakes to £2 for fixed-odds betting terminals:
Sir, Your report (June 15) that bookmakers have struck a backroom deal with the Treasury to delay for two years the implementation of the stake reduction on highly addictive fixed-odds betting terminals from £100 a spin to £2 is deeply disturbing. Week in Westminster, 4th-8th June 2018
This week in the House of Lords bishops spoke in debates on Israel and Palestine, and refugee resettlement, and asked questions about SEN funding, leukaemia treatment, Burundi, and Forestry Commission land. In the House of Commons the Second Church Estates Commissioner answered questions on modern slavery, Middle East peace, Church of Scotland relations, LGBTQ community, bell ringing, Nigerian Christians, religious literacy, overseas orphanages, affordable housing, gay conversion therapy and the Pemberton tribunal case.

Week in Westminster, 21st May – 25th May 2018
This week in the House of Lords the Bishop of London was introduced and took her seat on the Bishops’ Benches. Bishops also asked questions about religious literacy in Government, the UK Shared Prosperity fund, and support for hospitals and injured protesters in Gaza.
The Bishop of Oxford and Bishop of Worcester were on duty in the Lords throughout the week, reading prayers at the start of each sitting day.

On Thursday 24th May 2018 the Bishop of London, Rt Revd Sarah Mullally, was Introcuced to the House of Lords by the Archbishop of Canterbury and Bishop of Chichester, and took her seat on the Bishops’ Benches.

This week in the House of Lords the Bishop of St Albans welcomed the Government announcement on the reduction in the maximum stake for fixed-odds betting terminals from £100 to £2. Bishops also asked questions about Gaza, immigration removals and appeals, renewable energy, forced marriage, childcare costs, Universal Credit, NHS chaplaincy, forestry, and support for cathedrals. Bishops voted on amendments to the Government’s EU (Withdrawal) Bill and the Bishop of Lincoln was appointed to a Lords Committee on Regenerating Seaside Towns and Communities. Bishop of Lincoln appointed to Lords Committee on Regenerating Seaside Towns and Communities
On 17th May 2018 the House of Lords approved a motion to create a Committee to meet for a year, to consider the regeneration of seaside towns and communities. The Bishop of Lincoln, Rt Revd Christopher Lowson, was appointed as one of the Members of the Committee:
