Welfare Reform Bill: Divisions, Report Stage day 2

On the 27th January 2016 bishops took part in one vote during the Report Stage day 2 debate on the Government’s Welfare Reform and Work Bill. The amendment was to negate planned reductions in payments for those receiving Employment Support Allowance in the work related activity group.

Divisions – European Union Referendum Bill

On 14th December 2015 the House of Lords considered the House of Commons’ reasons for rejecting Lords amendments to the Government’s European Union Referendum Bill on extending the vote to 16 and 17 year olds. Peers voted on a new amendment from the Opposition, which sought to reinstate the lower voting age in the European referendum. The Bishop of Chester, Rt Revd Peter Forster, took part. Divisions – European Union Referendum Bill

On 18th November 2015 the Bishop of Chester, the Rt Revd Peter Forster, took part in two votes on amendments to the Government’s European Union Referendum Bill –  on votes for 16 year olds and eligibility of overseas commonwealth citizens to vote in the referendum.

Divisions – Tax Credit Regulations

On 26th October 2015 the House of Lords debated a motion to approve the Government’s Tax Credits (Income Thresholds and Determination of Rates) (Amendment) Regulations 2015.

Votes – Small Business, Enterprise and Employment Bill

On 11th March the Bishop of Leicester, Rt Rev Tim Stevens took part in three Divisions of the House on amendments to the Government’s Small Business, Enterprise and Employment Bill during its Report Stage in the Lords.

Divisions – Modern Slavery Bill

On 4th March 2015, three bishops took part in a division on the Government’s Modern Slavery Bill, relating to giving the powers to the Secretary of State to appoint a body which could maintain a website enabling greater business supply chain transparency.

Divisions – International Development (Official Development Assistance Target) Bill

On 26th February 2015, bishops took part in three divisions on the Government’s International Development (Official Development Assistance Target) Bill, The Bill proposes to enshrine in Law the commitment to spend 0.7% of UK GDI on International Development.
