Bishop of Southwark asks about Listed Places of Worship Grant Scheme

The Bishop of Southwark received the following written answer on 26th January 2026:

The Lord Bishop of Southwark asked His Majesty’s Government, further to the Written Answer by Baroness Twycross on 16 September 2025 (HL10149), what plans they have to disburse all the remaining funds in the Listed Places of Worship Grant Scheme by raising the cap on individual claims retrospectively in the final weeks of the scheme.

People on Low Incomes in Rural Communities

Marsha De Cordova MP (Lab, Battersea): Our most recent figures show that the Church of England was involved in more than 31,000 community projects across the country, including in my hon. Friend’s constituency of Harlow. In addition, funding for churches in the lowest income communities is set to increase from £91 million in the past three years to £133.5 million.

Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham asks about Listed Places of Worship Grant Scheme

The Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham received the following written answer on 17th March 2025:

The Lord Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham asked His Majesty’s Government what assessment they have made of the impact of the changes to the system for reclaiming VAT on listed places of worship on projects which have already signed a contract and where the work has begun, such as St Mary Magdalene Church in Newark.

Bishop of Bristol asks about Listed Places of Worship Grant Scheme

The Bishop of Bristol received the following written answer on 6th March 2025:

The Lord Bishop of Bristol asked His Majesty’s Government whether the £25,000 cap on grants under Listed Places of Worship Grant Scheme in 2025–26 will apply to works (1) which are at tender stage with finances committed, (2) which are currently in progress, and (3) in relation to which contracts have been signed.
