On 28th January 2014, a number of bishops took part in two divisions on the Government’s Transparency of Lobbying, Non-Party Campaigning and Trade Union Administration Bill, during ‘ping pong’.

Lord Harries of Pentregarth moved Motion B1, as an amendment to Motion B, to leave out from “House” to end and insert “do not insist on its Amendments 26 and 27 but do propose Amendment 26B in lieu.” Amendment 26B related to ‘third party constituency expenditure’.

Six bishops voted ‘content’ – the Bishops of Chester, Derby, Gloucester, Leicester, Norwich and St Albans. No bishop voted ‘not content’.

There were Contents: 231 / Not Contents: 249. Result: Government Win

 

Lord Harries of Pentregarth moved Motion C1, as an amendment to Motion C, to leave out from “House” to end and insert “do insist on its Amendment 108”.

Five bishops voted ‘content’ – the Bishops of Chester, Gloucester, Leicester, Norwich and St Albans. No bishop voted ‘not content’.

There were Contents: 245 / Not Contents: 245. Result: Government Win
