Votes: Procedures & Privileges

On 13th July 2021, the House of Lords debated a report from the Procedures and Privileges Committee regarding proposed changes to procedures in the House. Votes were held on a motion to approve the changes, and amendments to the main motion, in which Bishops took part:

Division 1:

The Bishop of Chichester, the Bishop of Carlisle, the Bishop of Leeds, the Bishop of Lincoln, the Bishop of London, the Bishop of Manchester, the Bishop of Newcastle, the Bishop of Peterborough, the Bishop of Southwark, the Bishop of St Albans, & the Bishop of Worcester took part in a vote on an amendment tabled by Lord Adonis:

“Lord Adonis moved, as an amendment to the motion in the name of the Senior Deputy Speaker, at end insert “but that this House believes it should sit from 1pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.””

The amendment was disagreed. Content: 234 / Not Content: 296

The Bishop of Carlisle, the Bishop of Leeds, the Bishop of Lincoln, the Bishop of London, the Bishop of Manchester, the Bishop of Newcastle, the Bishop of Peterborough, the Bishop of Southwark, the Bishop of St Albans, & the Bishop of Worcester voted Content.

The Bishop of Chichester voted Not Content.

The Bishop of Birmingham, the Bishop of Blackburn, the Bishop of Chichester, the Bishop of Lincoln, the Bishop of Manchester, the Bishop of Peterborough, the Bishop of Southwark, the Bishop of St Albans, & the Bishop of Worcester took part in a vote on an amendment tabled by Lord Balfe:

“Lord Balfe moved, as an amendment to the motion in the name of the Senior Deputy Speaker, at end insert “but that this House believes that the Lord Speaker should call members during oral questions, in a manner similar to that which pertains in the House of Commons; and calls on the Procedure and Privileges Committee to consider this matter and report by 31 October at the latest.””

The amendment was disagreed. Content: 112 / Not Content: 376

The Bishop of Lincoln voted Content.

The Bishop of Birmingham, the Bishop of Blackburn, the Bishop of Chichester, the Bishop of Manchester, the Bishop of Peterborough, the Bishop of Southwark, the Bishop of St Albans, & the Bishop of Worcester voted Not Content.
