Votes: Public Order Bill

On 14th March 2023, the House of Lords debated Commons amendments to the Public Order Bill. Votes were held on amendments to the bill, in which bishops took part.

Division 1:

The Bishop of Bristol, the Bishop of Lichfield, and the Bishop of Southwark took part in a vote on an amendment to the Public Order Bill tabled by Lord Coaker, to replace the word “minor” with “significant” when referring to delays caused by protests.

The amendment was disagreed. Content: 222 / Not Content: 233

The Bishop of Guildford, the Bishop of Lichfield, and the Bishop of Southwark took part in a vote on an amendment to the Public Order Bill tabled by Lord Coaker that would place a higher threshold on suspicion-less stop and searches by police in the context of protests.

The amendment was agreed. Content: 242 / Not Content: 196

The Bishop of Guildford, the Bishop of Lichfield, and the Bishop of Southwark voted Content.
