Votes: EU (Notification of Withdrawal) Bill – second referendum

On 7th March 2017 the House of Lords considered the Government’s EU (Notification of Withdrawal) Bill at Report. A vote was held on an amendment from Liberal Democrat Peer Lord Newby to hold a second referendum on the outcome of Brexit negotiations . Seven Lords Spiritual took part. 

Lord Newby moved Amendment 1:

In Clause 1, Page 1, line 10, at end insert— “( ) No agreement with the European Union consequent on the use of the power under subsection (1) may be ratified unless it has been approved by a national referendum.”

The Archbishop of Canterbury and the Bishops of Gloucester, London, Oxford, Truro, Winchester and Worcester all voted Not Content. No bishop voted Content
